The Stubaier Höhenweg is one of Austria's classic hut-to-hut circuits: a high-alpine loop around the Stubai valley that links seven mountain huts over roughly 80 kilometres. You walk above 2,000 metres almost the entire week, with glaciated three-thousanders on one side and the green valley floor far below on the other.
The route is well marked but demands sure-footedness: several passes cross rocky terrain secured with fixed cables. Each day ends at a staffed hut with hot food and bunks, so you carry only a light pack. Most hikers walk it between late June and late September, when the huts are open and the passes are usually snow-free.
